Upon Publishing the Official Journal "Psychiatry Investigation"
Byoung Hoon Oh, MD, PhD
Editor-in-Chief, "Psychiatry Investigation"

"Psychiatry Investigation", the official English journal of the Korean Neuropsychiatric Association(KNPA), is to be published biannually commencing this year.
Its aims are to contribute to the cure and prevention of neuropsychiatric disorders, the improvements of mental health and quality of life through the dissemination of scientific information to the members of the Korean Neuropsychiatric Association and other international societies. Its area of coverage ranges from biological to psychosocial psychiatry and child-adolescent to old age psychiatry, including such topics as genetics, neuroimaging, substance abuse, psychopharmacotherapy, and psychiatric epidemiology.
In order to foster and promote researches in the neuropsychiatric fields, the journal will publish specialized reviews and overview articles, original articles describing new research, brief reports, communications, opinions, medical news, etc. The topics covered, which are internally reviewed by The Editorial Board, concern clinical and basic research in the field of neuropsychiatry. Access to articles is easy and convenient through key word indexing using Medical Subject Heading (MeSH)index words. Both the author index and the subject index are listed in the last issue of each volume.
The KNPA, which was founded in September 1945, first published the "Journal of the Korean Neuropsychiatric Association" in April 1962. The "Journal of the Korean Neuropsychiatric Association" has evolved since 1962 with 4 issues taking place in 1970, 1988, 1999 and 2003, and it is listed in KoreaMed since 2000 and the Korea Research Foundation since 2003. However, it is limited to Korean articles combined with English abstracts and has so far been distributed mainly inside Korea.
This year, the KNPA began publishing its official English journal, "Psychiatry Investigation", biannually. This journal will be made readily available to a wide international audience. In near the future, it will be listed in KoreaMed and be widely distributed to its members, and to the members of the Korea Research Foundation, the National Assembly Library of the Republic of Korea, and will also be listed in the United States National Library of Medicine through PubMed.
The editorial board members of "Psychiatry Investigation" will continue to improve the quality of the journal, with the goal of its being included in other major scientific indexing databases of world biomedical journals, such the Index Medicus and SCI, in the near future.
"Psychiatry Investigation", the official English journal of the Korean Neuropsychiatric Association, adheres to the ethical and scientific standards for carrying out biomedical research on human subjects that have been established in various international guidelines, including the Declaration of Helsinki, the CIOMS International Ethical Guidelines for Biomedical Research Involving Human Subjects, and the WHO and ICH Guidelines for Good Clinical Practice. Compliance with these guidelines helps to ensure that the dignity, rights, safety;and well-being of research participants are promoted and that the results of the investigations are credible. In fact, all international guidelines require the ethical and scientific review of biomedical research, along with informed consent and the appropriate protection of those unable to give their consent, as essential measures to protect the rights of individuals and includes research on pharmaceuticals, medical devices, medical radiation and imaging, surgical procedures, involving the use of medical records;and biological samples, as well as epidemiological, social, and psychological investigations.
